Math, Shapes and Classification

We made circles out of pipe cleaners to group the different shapes or colors.

Rique chose to group by shapes.

There were two different sized squares and circles, rectangles, half and quarter circles, diamonds and two different kinds of triangles.

Enrique chose to group the triangles in two different circles. I asked him why, since they all had three sides and three points. He told me they weren't the same, then proceeded to shape a square out of two right triangles. The other type of triangle couldn't do that.

He also discover that four of the quarter circles could make one circle and two halfs made a whole.

Later he began creating his own shapes by grouping them together.

I love this kid!
